Mmmmm...
So tonight i had pizza delivery from Pizza Pizza. Nothing special, just a medium with zuchini's, sun dried tomatoes and pineapple with some bbq and tabasco sauce jizzed onto top. Also had some wings. It was an excellent deal too as the delivery guy arrived 8 minutes late and all of it was FREEEEEEE

Yes, there is a poutine under that mess
I had stuff to take care of so i stuck around downtown. Headed over to Smoke's Poutinerie for dinner. I've always wanted to try this place out and see what the hype was all about. Got a Hog Town Poutine (with bacon, italian sausages, caramelized onions, sauteed shrooms). The bacon and sausages were a bit of an overkill but i really liked the mushrooms and the perfectly caramelized onions. The "base" was also very good with delicious fries and stringy cheese curds. Next time, i will probly opt for the veggie poutine with just the onions and the mushrooms along with some peas. It was the most delicious poutine I've ever had and i will definitely be back. I used to think New York Fries made good poutine but this places puts New York Fries to shame. Just makes me wonder how many calories are in one of these things???
*** Oh and just to show my support...
Kenzo Japanese Noodle House
Today i had lunch at Kenzo Japanese Noodle House (138 Dundas St W). I had their Miso soup based ramen. The soup was flavourful wtihout being too overpowering and the noodle had a good consistency to it too. More meat or veggies would have made it better though.
Also had their seafood pancake as a side dish. Lots of shrimp/squid/scallops inside it with a tangy sauce on top. Overall pretty impressed with the food and the service (ran by koreans?). Unfortunately, it wasnt cheap :(

Sushi House?
With the recommendation of a local food blogger, I went to Sushi House for dinner. Never been to this place before and it was only 2minutes from my house so i gave it a try. From what i can tell, its Korean owned. The prices were mediocre and so were the food. Ordered a sashimi platter which they claim would be suitable for 2 to 3 guests. I could have easily ate it all myself.
As fish itself would not be sufficient, i needed some rice to fill my tummy. The typical miso soup/salad accompanied the meal with some cold noodle appetizer and oranges as desserts. Overall, it was a pretty mediocre meal.

Markham YMCA Chinese New Year Event
The YMCA in my little town of Markham hosted an afternoon event yesterday for some sort of chinese new year celebration. The special guest was mayor Frank Scarpitti and i just so happened to be the event photographer. The event occurred in the gymnasium where the mayor gave a brief speech, shook some hands and attempted to sing something in chinese. Aside from that, there were also pavilions setup for simple games and prizes. Pikchurs can be seen here

Today's Lunch
Today lunch was had at Canyon Creek Chophouse. To start off, a fresh, warm loaf of bread was served with soft creamy butter ;)
My usual choice for lunch at Canyon Creek is their signature prime rib sandwich, but i wasnt very hungry today so i had their caesar salad instead. Lettuce was fresh and crispy and dressed just right

Snack at West 50
So i happened to drop by at West 50 Pourhouse & Grill today for a late afternoon snack. Order 2lb of wings and a BBQ chicken quesadilla since they had half price appetizers from 4pm to 6.30pm mon-fri. Our waiter was uber nice and threw in 2 pepsi's (with refills) on the house.
Believe it or not, total came to $15
Edward Levesque's Kitchen
Once again, I took advantage of Winterlicious and had dinner last night at Edward Levesque's Kitchen.
For starters, I had a Baked Feta Salad. It was dressed with fig syrup and pomegranate seeds which gave it a wonderful and fruity sweet flavour. There were also freshly toasted walnuts that were still warm and toasty. Underneath all the green was a piece of baked feta which pungent while not being too overpowering. I can easily say that it was the BEST salad I have ever had. It was that good.
The appetizer set the standards very high and the main course did not disappoint either. I opted for the Grilled Lamb Sausage. The sausages were very flavourful but it was a little overdone for my taste (i like rare meat). The sausages were complimented with apricot mustard, interestingly sweet and goes quite with lamb. Underneath it all were sautéd diced veggies and beluga lentils.
And to wrap things up, dessert was a Caramelized banana mousse. At first, it just tasted like a cookies/cream protein shake with bananas but after a while, i noticed how smooth the mousse was and it had a wonderful banana aroma and flavour.
Overall, i quite enjoyed this dinning experience. The only complaint i have is that their portions are small and its surprising how un-filling this 3 course meal was. But i cant really blame them for focusing on quality rather than quantity as this meal was exceptional and lived up to expectations.
***Oh and the place was extremely dark. I was surprised that i got the pictures to turn out. I guess my camera is more capable than i give it credit for ;)

FutureShop Christmas Party 2010
Last nigh, I attended my ex-employer's Christmas Party. Christmas Party? In February? Yup. Like all retail stores, Futureshop uses the holidays as a money making opportunity so they throw a party in the new years.
The Food was mediocre at best but folks there had a good time. I was (1 of 2) main photographers for the event and more photos can be seen in my Smugmug Album

There goes my portable rig
On friday night after paying a visit to the local YMCA, i left my ipod nano and my headphones in the pocket of my sweat pants. Unfortunately, my foolish mother washed those pants without checking the pockets first.
So there goes my Shure SE420's (retails for $399) and 16gb nano ($199). A total loss of over $600 in portable sound equipment. The ipod screen is messed up and only display white, where as a computer doesn't even detect it anymore. The Shure's still work but they sound as good as a $9.99 set of Skullcandy's.
Oh Well :(

Wings for Dinner?
I had to reheat some leftover wings to eat (from Loblaw's $10 for 30 wings + 2L pop deal that's going on this weekend). 11 wings in total. Sweet Chilli flavoured. And a Gin+Pepsi to go with the wings
Wildfire
I had the opportunity to eat lunch at Wildfire Steakhouse & Wine Bar (3438 Yonge St.) because Winterlicious is still in effect. Wildfire is a place that specializes in hardwood charcoal grilling. To start the meal off, i had an appetizer of escargots in an herbed butter sauce. The butteryness was very savoury but the escargot was unfortunately flavourless.
Main course consists of a New York Striploin steak sandwich. It was mildly spicy with piri piri aioli, had perfectly caramelized onions and served with french fries. The sandwich was one of the better (if not the best) sandwiches I've ever had. Comparable to the prime rib sandwich at Canyon Creek. The fries were also delectable with crunchy outside and a mash potato-like center.
I also had a Wildfire Crème Brûlée, made with Madagascar vanilla beans but forgot to take a pic of that... so yea...

Birthday Dinner
Today was my dad's birthday. So dinner was "slightly" better than usual. There were seared lamb racks from Costco, ribs from The Village Grocer, various home made veggies and rice/potato.
Dericiousness was almost on par with restaurants at a fraction of the price
